Where else in the world can you see the Greater Bird of Paradise? Or a fire-maned Bowerbird? Or a Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo? Or the world's largest fruit bat or the world's smallest parrot? A pristine tropical coral reef managed by local village people who are also the customary owners of these resources? All of these wonders and mores can be found in the south-western corner of the tropical Pacific in the region known as "Melanesia." Conservation International's Melanesia Center for Biodiversity
Conservation (CBC) works throughout this region to foster the conservation
of Melanesia's native biodiversity, natural ecosystems, and traditional
cultures.
